Western North Region launches war against Galamsey
In order to fight against illicit mining in the region, the Western North Regional Council, led by Mr. Richard Ebbah Obeng, established a Special Joint Anti-Galamsey Task Force during its second-quarter meeting.
The Regional Police Command, Regional Immigration Command, the Military, the National Investigation Bureau, the National Security, and the Fire Service Command all make up the Special Joint Anti-Galamsey Task Force of the region.

However, the team has been given the mandate to fight illicit mining, which is becoming more well-known in the region.
The regional minister, during the meeting, issued a warning, saying that anyone or any organization caught in the act would have to face the legal repercussions due.
The minister instructed all MMDCEs to work with the task force to stop galamsey activities in the area. He reiterated that REGSEC was aware of the involvement of the foreign nationals in the unlawful act and had issued a warning that they would be detained and returned to their home countries.

According to him, foreign nationals who intend to utilize the Western North Region as a sanctuary to engage in these illegal activities should reconsider and cease their activities because they will be caught and subjected to the full force of the laws of Ghana.
