Kofi Adu (born May 25, 1969), also known as Agya Koo, is an actor and comedian from Ghana. He is one of the celebrated Ghanaian actors. He has appeared in over 200 Ghanaian movies including MaTricki Wo, Asoreba, Agya Koo Bank Manager. Otoolege, and Ohia Asoma Woɔ.
Agya Koo hails from the Ashanti Region of Ghana but lived in a suburb in Accra Newtown called Asantewaa. He worked as a cobbler. His talent in comedy was discovered on a Ghanaian comedy show called Keysoap Concert Party on GTV (Ghana National Television) at the National Theatre in Accra. He worked as a comedian warming up the crowd before the main drama is staged.
After he gained the recognition he deserved, he joined the Ghanaian movie production (Kumawood). He went on to star in about 200 movies. Agya Koo singlehandedly brought the Ghana movie industry back on its feet in the late 2000s. His name was on every Ghanaian’s lip.
