Moving the Grammy Awards to Las Vegas might make preparing for the event even more difficult. However, the announcement indicates that another Grammy Week event will be held in Las Vegas.
“Due to logistical constraints caused by the ongoing pandemic, including a lack of space, we have decided to postpone the 2022 Grammy Gala,” said Davis and Academy Executive Director Harvey Mason Jr. in a statement.
“We will continue the holidays next year as we host an extraordinary evening in our unique and brilliant way, graciously to our amazing music artists, music, film, television, sports and politician directors who celebrate the event every year not like any other love. .
As previously announced, additional GRAMMY week activities will take place in Las Vegas and the 64th annual GRAMMY Awards will continue its tradition of being the biggest music night on April 3 at the MGM Garden Arena.”
Sony Music chairman Rob Stringer, who will be honored at the gala, is likely to receive the award next year, although officials have not been able to confirm this at the time of writing.
Since its inception in 1976, the gala concert has become one of the most coveted invitations to Grammy Week, which annually welcomes industry icons and honours music directors, alongside a star-studded evening.
Due to the pandemic, last year’s party took place as two separate virtual events, with Davis speaking to superstars ranging from Bruce Springsteen and Johnny Mitchell to John Legend.
The Grammy Awards announced on January 18 that the show would be held on April 3 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Trevor Noah, host of The Daily Show and presenter of the 2021 Grammys, will return as host. More details on the dates and locations of other official Grammy Week events, including the opening night ceremony and the promising MusiCares Man of the Year concert (this year in honour of Johnny Mitchell), are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
While the 2022 Grammy Awards are taking place on January 31 in front of a packed audience at their traditional venue, the Crypto.com Arena (formerly known as the Staples Center) in downtown Los Angeles, the recent resurgence of COVID has led to the postponement or cancellation of many events around the world. across the country, and the Grammy Awards were officially pushed back to January 5.
