Ghanaian legend, Asamoah Gyan, has reacted to the Black Stars’ elimination from the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Cameroon.
Gyan, who is Ghana’s most-capped player with 109 appearances and all-time top scorer with 51 goals, also insisted that captain Andrew Ayew is the only player who has a killer tendency in the team.
Recall that Ghana was eradicated from the 2021 AFCON in the group stages on Tuesday night after a shock 3-2 defeat to debutants, Comoros.
The Black Stars came into their final Group C fixture with one point and needed a win to advance in the tournament.
But they conceded an early goal and with Andrew Ayew receiving a red card in the 25th minute, the Black Stars ended up losing after full time.
Responding, Gyan said he was devastated and shocked by the way Ghana crashed out of the 2021 AFCON.
Gyan told SuperSport: “Andrew Ayew is the only one who has got the killer instinct in the team.”
He added, “I’m overwhelmed. I am shocked the other way round. You cannot win a game with this attitude. I saw the real Ghana when we were ten men down.
“They tried to give everything good, but it was not enough. As we all said earlier, we didn’t have a sense of necessity throughout this tournament.
“We had ten players on the field. I am a bit upset because why do you have to push when you have ten men instead of having eleven men on the pitch. I am very disappointed in this game.
“We didn’t play with determination, with any ambitions. What else can I say? We have lost and we are going home. everybody in Ghana will be disappointed.”
