WCQ 2022: FIFA rejects South Africa’s protest against Ghana’s defeat

Black Star   FIFA has declared that it will not be allowed to appeal from South Africa in connection with the important 2022 World Cup qualifying  against Ghana.   Baffana Baffana claims to have been “robbed” after the tenth defeat last month, and the only goal of the game came from the penalty in the first half.   The South African Football Association (Safa) filed a “match-fixing, including corruption and bribery” allegations when filing a complaint with the World Football Association.   South Africa  needed a draw to advance to the playoffs of the Africa World Cup, which resulted in Ghana scoring a goal.

Safa President Danny Jordan later claimed that bets surged during the qualifying round on the Cape Coast on November 14.   Meanwhile, Benin’s complaint to replace the Congolese DR  in another crunch qualifying on the same day was also dismissed.   The FIFA Disciplinary Commission has  declared that both protests are unacceptable because they do not meet the relevant requirements, but  added that the decision could be appealed.

Fifa referred to its disciplinary rules and World Cup qualifying rules, but did not provide an exact reason for the decision.   Ghana and the Democratic Republic of the Congo were drawn in the Africa World Cup playoffs in January, and it seems that  five representatives of the continent are facing each other in Qatar  in March.

“We receive the decision without details, request a reason [from Fifa] and consider our options,” Safa’s managing director Tebogo Motlanthe said in a statement on Friday.   Benin’s protest was about the 20th defeat to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. As a result, Leopard passed the qualifying ahead of Benin, who  needed to win to move forward. The    appeal was about the fact that Congo DR  made a total of four shifts in four windows during the game.   According to the current Fifa rules for international games, teams can offer up to 5 shifts, but only during the 3 timeframes of the game.
